A Fresh Take on the Golf Game
It’s been another busy week at Dog Shot Golf — and, for once, the golf itself might actually be starting to improve.
After what feels like an eternity of dry weather, the rain has finally arrived. The courses have taken a bit of a battering this summer, so fingers crossed this is the start of things turning around. A bit of rain, a bit of green grass and, hopefully, fewer fairways that feel like concrete.
The Big Refresh
The biggest news this week is that a huge chunk of the Dog Shot Golf redesign is now done.
The store is looking better, the app is looking better and, most importantly, everything is becoming much easier to navigate.
That might sound like the boring bit of building a golf app, but it makes a massive difference. We want Dog Shot Golf to feel like something you actually want to open, use and come back to — not another golf scorecard app that gets downloaded, used twice and then forgotten about.
Because let’s be honest: golf can get stale.
You play the same course.
You play with the same mates.
You chase the same handicap.
You lose the same balls.
And eventually, even a good round of golf can start feeling a little… familiar.
That’s where the Dog Shot Index comes in.
The idea isn’t to replace golf. It’s to give you another way to play the game.
Instead of only worrying about your score, you can start paying attention to all the ridiculous stuff that happens during a round — the shanks, disasters, heroic recoveries and moments where you genuinely wonder what the hell just happened.
It gives your golf round another layer.
Something to compete over.
Something to laugh about.
Something to talk about afterwards.
And hopefully, something that keeps you interested in playing again next week.
Getting The Kids Involved
The kids have been out on the course too, putting in the rounds and working towards getting their official golf handicaps.
It’s great seeing them getting more comfortable on the course, learning the game and starting to build up the rounds they need to get their own handicaps.
For them, it’s simply about getting out, playing some golf and enjoying the game — hopefully with plenty of good shots mixed in with the inevitable disasters!
A First Competition
Dude also played his first proper golf competition this week, heading out with a mate to see what the competitive side of golf was all about.
And he came away with third place.
Not a bad result for a first attempt!
More importantly, it was a great first experience of playing competitive golf — a bit more pressure, a bit more concentration and probably a few more nerves than a normal round with your mates.
Definitely something he’ll be doing again.
And Then There Was The Equipment…
Unfortunately, not everything has gone smoothly.
The new equipment we bought for printing our caps arrived this week.
And it was… rubbish.
So that’s going straight back to the manufacturer.
Frustrating? Absolutely.
But the replacement is already on its way, so hopefully we won’t be waiting too long before we can finally get back to printing some of the new Dog Shot Golf designs ourselves.
Which means there could soon be some very silly golf hats coming your way.
More Code. More Golf. More Dog Shots.
The next week is going to be another big one on the development side.
More code is going in. More of the app is being refined. More of the store is getting cleaned up.
And if that replacement printing machine arrives and actually works this time, we can finally start producing some of the new designs we’ve been working on.
The whole point of Dog Shot Golf has always been pretty simple:
Golf should be fun.
Not every round needs to be about lowering your handicap, buying the latest golf equipment or pretending you’re one good swing away from making the PGA Tour.
Sometimes you just need a few mates, a golf course and a completely unnecessary amount of competition over who just hit the worst shot of the day.
And that’s exactly what we’re building.
Bad shots. Good mates. Great days.
