What we collect

If you just browse the shop. Pages you look at, what's in your basket, and cookie data. Your browser also stores a short list of products you've recently viewed, on your own device.

If you buy something. Your name, email address, delivery and billing address, what you ordered, and your order history. We never see your card details — those go straight to our payment provider through Shopify.

If you create an account or join the Club. Your email and password are held by Shopify, not by us. In our own systems we hold the username you choose, your home club, your handicap, your pronoun, your profile photo if you upload one, and any titles or badges you've earned.

If you play. Your rounds, scores, the howlers you log, badges, awards, attendance, and who you're friends with or have blocked. If you allow it, we use your approximate location to find golf courses near you — we don't store where you were, only which course you played.

If someone adds you to a trip. An organiser can enter your name, a nickname, a phone number and a pronoun so you can be scored. You may never have visited our site. If that's you, see "If you were added by someone else" below.

Your device. The app stores a random identifier on your device so a round can be kept in sync. It isn't linked to advertising and it doesn't follow you anywhere else.

What we don't collect

We don't store your IP address or your postal address in our own app database. We don't run Google Analytics, Meta pixels, TikTok pixels, or any advertising tracker of our own. We don't hold your password. We don't ask your age or date of birth.

Why we hold it, and on what basis

  • To give you what you bought — your order, your pass, your membership, your round. That's performance of a contract.
  • To run and protect the service — keeping it working, stopping abuse. That's our legitimate interest.
  • To let a trip work — everyone on a trip needs to see everyone else's names and scores, or there's no competition. Legitimate interest.
  • To email you about your order. Contract.
  • To send you marketing — only with your consent, or where you've bought from us and haven't objected. You can stop it any time from the link in every email.
  • To keep our books straight — legal obligation. Order records are kept for six years for tax.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data. We use these companies to run the business, and each only gets what it needs:

  • Shopify — our shop, checkout, customer accounts and email. This includes Shopify's own tools that we use: Flow, Subscriptions, Translate & Adapt, and the Shopify Claude Connector.
  • Cloudflare — hosting for the app, its database, and stored profile photos.
  • Anthropic — writes the round recaps, trip write-ups and speeches. Player names or nicknames, pronouns and what they did on the course are sent to generate the text. Anthropic does not use it to train their models, and it's deleted within 30 days.
  • Photon and OpenStreetMap — searching for and finding golf courses.
  • Open-Meteo — the weather on the day you played.
  • Payment providers, through Shopify's checkout.

Some of these are outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the standard contractual protections those providers have in place.

We'll also hand over information if the law requires it.

The Shopify Claude Connector

We use Claude, made by Anthropic, to help us run the shop. When we do, order and customer information may be shared with Anthropic through Shopify's official connector. It isn't used to train their models.

Who else sees your golf

This one matters, so it's separate.

Everyone on a trip can see everyone else on that trip — names or nicknames, scores, fines and awards. Every participant gets a link to the trip record. The write-ups and share images we generate name people, and anyone holding the link can read them.

If you'd rather not appear, tell the organiser or email us and we'll take you out.

If you were added by someone else

If an organiser added you to a trip, we hold your name, nickname, phone number and pronoun because they gave them to us, so that you can be scored.

You have exactly the same rights as everyone else. Email us and we'll show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it. You don't need an account to ask.

How long we keep it

Honestly: until you ask us to delete it. We don't currently run an automatic clear-out, so a round you played, a nickname you were given and a write-up you're named in will stay on our systems indefinitely.

The exceptions are order and payment records, which we keep for six years because tax law says so, and anything we need to keep to deal with a dispute.

If you want it gone, email us and we'll delete it. We'll do it within one month.

Cookies and what's stored on your device

Shopify sets cookies for your basket, your session and your cookie choices. You can manage these through the banner and through your browser.

The app stores a few things locally on your device: a round in progress, a guest access token, a device identifier for syncing, and a note of which products you've looked at recently. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.

We don't use advertising cookies of our own. Shopify may share limited data with advertising partners — you can opt out on our Your Privacy Choices page, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • show you what we hold about you
  • correct it if it's wrong
  • delete it
  • stop or limit what we do with it
  • hand it over in a portable form
  • stop using it for marketing, which we'll always do immediately

Email dogshotgolf@gmail.com and we'll deal with it within one month, free of charge.

If you think we've got it wrong, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd rather you told us first so we can fix it.

Age

Our services are intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child's information is on our systems, tell us and we'll remove it.

Automated decisions

We don't make any automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you. The AI writes jokes about your golf; it doesn't decide anything about you.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date below, and we'll tell you if the change is significant.
