03/07/2026 - Last Minute Golf is the Best Golf

Some evenings are planned. Others just sort of… happen.
One message later and Coochie and I were heading out for a cheeky 9 holes at Cowes Golf Club on the Isle of Wight. Proper summer evening, blue skies, barely a breath of wind, and the course looking absolutely ridiculous. You know those evenings where you stand on the first tee and think, “Yep… this beats pretty much everything else.”
Halfway through the first hole we bumped into RNS Golf. I recognised him straight away from TikTok (@rnsgolf), which is always slightly awkward because you’re trying to remember if you know someone from real life or because you’ve watched them stripe drives into orbit on your phone. Top bloke. We ended up joining forces for the rest of the round.
Unfortunately for our egos, he’s annoyingly good at golf.
You know the type. Doesn’t look like he’s trying, swings nice and easy, then casually sends another one down the middle while the rest of us are calculating whether the neighbouring fairway counts as “strategic course management.”
Hopefully we’ll get another round in soon.
Meanwhile, Coochie was giving his shiny new clubs their first outing. Did they magically fix his golf swing?
No.
Did they massively improve his mood?
Absolutely.
Which, if we’re honest, is what buying new clubs is really all about.
As for me, there were some absolute rockets straight down the fairway… and a few equally impressive missiles into completely different fairways. Variety is the spice of life. The biggest victory? Only one golf ball was sacrificed to the Golf Gods. That’s practically professional by Dog Shot Golf standards.
Even better, Cheese, Dude and a couple of their mates were out in front having their own adventure around the course. Plenty of laughs, plenty of questionable golf, and exactly what summer golf should look like.
Honestly, is there a better way to spend a completely unplanned evening than grabbing your clubs, meeting good people, enjoying a stunning course and laughing your way around nine holes? We don’t think so.
One final update… Sherpa applications are still coming in at a disappointingly slow pace. Current duties include carrying the camera and reminding me to stay in microphone range. Ive tried to make it a more attractive proposition as id actually remebered to top up the Tees (!), but I do need help gently steering me away from whichever fairway I wasn’t aiming for.
You would get the benefits of fresh air, giving occasional applause, and witnessing some truly spectacularly average golf.
