Well… another week has disappeared into a black hole of coding, testing, breaking things, fixing things, wondering why they’re broken again, and then somehow managing to make them work five minutes before giving up for the night. 😂
The Dog Shot Golf app is finally starting to feel like a proper app rather than a collection of ideas held together with hope and coffee. Every time I tick something off the list, I think I’m nearly there… then I remember the other 47 things I’ve thought of that absolutely have to be in before launch. It’s definitely heading in the right direction though, and I’m genuinely buzzing with how it’s coming together.
The boys had their golf lesson this week, which meant I accidentally found myself with something that’s become increasingly rare…
Time.
Actual, proper, uninterrupted time to myself.
So naturally, instead of doing something sensible, I grabbed my ball retriever and headed out onto the course to see what treasures were hiding in the rough. There’s something strangely therapeutic about wandering around a golf course with absolutely no rush, listening to the birds, enjoying a bit of peace and quiet, and disappearing into bushes that no golfer should ever have been aiming at in the first place.
I was loving life.
No emails.
No notifications.
No “Dad, watch this!”
Just me, the trees, and hundreds of golf balls donated by optimistic golfers who definitely said, “I saw it land just here.”
The further I went, the more ridiculous it became. I ended up waaaay off the fairways, crawling through bushes, climbing over fallen branches, and generally looking like I’d joined Mountain Rescue rather than gone to a golf course.
The haul was pretty decent too.
Then came the highlight…
I found one of my own golf balls.
Nice. 😞
There’s something quite humbling about realising you’ve been searching for everyone else’s lost balls only to discover you’re responsible for half of them yourself. Apparently I’ve been personally restocking the local wildlife with premium golf balls for years.
The app is taking shape, the ideas keep coming, and I’m itching to get back out there and actually play some golf rather than just coding about it. Hopefully I’ll manage to squeeze a few rounds in soon…
…which almost certainly means the British summer will immediately end, it’ll rain sideways for a month, and every tee time I book will come with a weather warning.
Typical.
Until then, it’s back to the keyboard, back to testing, back to adding all the stupid little features that make Dog Shot Golf what it is, and back to wandering into bushes looking for golf balls that, statistically speaking, are probably mine anyway. 🤣
