How to Play
Golf’s obsessed with getting better. We’re obsessed with celebrating the bad — together. Dog Shot Golf tracks your howlers, not your score. (Though we’ll keep your score too — we don’t judge.)
The basics
Start a round, add your mates, and play your usual golf — which, let’s be honest, is why you’re here. Every time somebody produces a disaster, log it. That’s the whole game: the honesty is the comedy, and the comedy is the point. Nothing to download, nothing to install — it runs in your phone’s browser, right off this site.
The howlers
The bad stuff, sorted by where the damage happens: Off the Tee (air shots, trees, next fairway over), In the Thick of It (bushes, bunkers, water — the ball’s journey into nature), Around the Dance Floor (three-putts, missed gimmies, chipped clean over the green), and the Epic Fails (hit your own trolley, hit a playing partner, fell over mid-swing — the ones the group will still be quoting at Christmas). Tap it, log it, own it.
The good stuff
Genuinely great moments count in your favour — a hole in one, an eagle, a chip-in, a proper hero shot, or taking on the tiger line and getting away with it. Rare, obviously. That’s what makes them worth logging.
The end of the round
Two awards, no appeals: Top Dog — the day’s winner, bragging rights fully loaded — and the Muppet, who racked up the biggest catalogue of disasters and traditionally gets the round in at the 19th. Thinking of quitting mid-round to dodge the reckoning? You’ll be marked Retired Hurt, and you stay eligible for Muppet. There is no escape.
The unwritten rules
- Log it there and then. A howler reported three holes later is a howler denied.
- The group’s word is final. If four people saw it, it happened.
- House rules welcome — every group plays it their own way. The app keeps count; you keep the banter.
- It’s a game about laughing at yourself first. Anyone taking it seriously is doing it wrong.
